Reaching for a midnight snack is a hard-to-break routine, even if you aren't necessarily hungry. It's okay to snack, but generally, it's more common to over eat or choose less healthy foods later on in the day.
The first step to avoiding this routine is figuring out why you do it. Some people turn to evening snacking because they're overzealous about restricting their eating during the day. When nighttime rolls around, the hunger is too much to resist. By planning your meals and making sure to eat regular and healthy snacks, you can reduce the hunger or need to reach for late night treats.
For others, that late night snack might be just a habit, or something they do when they are upset or just plain bored. It's good to try and assess your hunger and ask yourself if you are actually hungry. If the answer is yes, then go for a healthy and portion controlled snack. If not, it might be best to try and find something else to occupy your time.
