As with anything, it is possible to consume too much whey protein. Truly over-consuming whey protein is rare, but it is fairly common for people to overestimate the amount of protein that they require – especially in the fitness community. As long as you are a healthy individual without pre-existing medical conditions, there isn't much harm in consuming a little too much protein.
That said, there is no point in consuming too much protein. Consuming too many grams of protein in your day can put you in a calorie surplus, which will lead to weight gain. Also, protein is not an efficient source of energy for your body, and if you eat too much protein (without eating enough carbohydrates/fat), your body will try to use the protein for energy needs.
The best way to determine if you are consuming too much protein is to count your protein intake for the day. The acceptable range of protein intake is quite wide, so don't stress about it too much as long as you are following a generally healthy and balanced diet. We recommend trying to consume a quality source of protein 3-6 times per day. This includes meals and snacks, both protein powder and whole foods.
