Creatine isn't exactly meant to help with recovery. Creatine is a very fast-acting source of energy present in your skeletal muscles. When you are working out in quick bursts (such as weightlifting), creatine provides muscle energy that helps with your strength and short-term endurance. Once the creatine is used up, it needs to be regenerated.
The idea with creatine supplements is to keep the creatine levels in your muscles topped off, so you can get the most benefit out of your creatine stores.
